Purpose
The impact of my project is to increase the amount of kids who workout and play with REAL. My video aims to target parents of these kids in Mid-Michigan. REAL has a lot of short form videos that are on social media and target kids. My video will live on REAL’s website and be sent out through an email list. I am very passionate about the level of basketball in Mid-Michigan and how REAL can help improve it. The purpose of this video is for parents to see the video and bring their kids to train/play with REAL, which will increase the level of basketball in Mid-Michigan.
The Process
Pre-Production
At the beginning of my project, I was focused on planning what my project would look like. This included using a GANTT chart to help plan my semester. I also worked a lot with Lance Maney in order to find a theme of the video. After speaking with Lance, we developed a few people who would be good to interview. Then I crafted sets of questions and set dates for each person I filmed.
Production
Once I got everything planned, I started by shooting an interview with Lance Maney who owns REAL basketball. I then interviewed Rachel Resio and Zach Wentworth. Both Rachel and Zach are former players with REAL who now coach travel teams. Then, I shot some b-roll of Rachel training with Lance. Throughout the production process, I was gathering archival footage and photos from the head of media at REAL and Lance.
Post-Production
For post production, I transcribed my interviews into Premiere Pro and developed two different transcripts. I then got feedback from my professor on the transcripts. After revising the transcripts, I assembled it in Premiere Pro. I continued to shorten the transcript as I added b-roll. Once I had a rough cut, I met with my professor again to get feedback. I made changes to my edit and finished the video by tending to the sound, color, and titles.
Handoff
After the video was finished, I sent it to Lance so the video could have a lasting impact. Lance posted the video on his website and sent it out to his email list. He also may post it on social media pages like Facebook and Instagram. This video is also being shared and promoted on my social media pages.
Feedback
Throughout my project, I sought film and editing feedback from Professor Collamati and Kelton Eldred. I also sought feedback from Lance Maney about video length, handoff methods, people to interview, and important things to highlight in the video.
